We all have moments in our lives when we know things will never be the same again. When life has made a fundamental change. I can think of several moments. The most profound was the passing of our daughter, but it could be as simple as reading a book.
Life is in a constant state movement. It doesn’t stand still. You may be moving forward. You may be moving backward, but life is always moving.
When I look back, I can see several small decisions that led me to where I am. Some of them, in hindsight, were terrible decisions. Some of them, in the moment, seemed risky but turned out to be correct.
The sum of all the decisions I’ve made put me exactly where I am. A business consultant friend of mine says “Every organization is perfectly designed to get the results that it gets.” You are an organization. Your family is an organization. Your workplace is an organization. Your friends are an organization.
The way you conduct your life has gotten you the life you have. Right now, you have an opportunity to make a decision to change your path or continue on as you have been. That choice is up to you but I challenge you to define your “And then what?”
When you get to the next stop on your journey, then what? Where do you go next? Living day to day leaves too much to chance. Think a few steps ahead. Go toward that. When you get there, then what? The choice is yours. Be sure you make one.
